UWE SCHIEFER

Including:

  • Cellar tour, vineyard tour (weather permitting)

  • Tasting with the winegrower

  • Traditional Austrian luch at the winery

After several steps in the culinary world Uwe Schiefer decided to follow his passion as independent winemaker in 1990. His cultivated vineyard area covers 22 hectares, most of which is planted with red wine varieties: mainly Blaufränkisch and some Pinot Noir and Merlot. The clay-loamy terroir with a high iron content on ancient steep slopes makes it possible to produce red wines that are full of character and seem almost cool. His focus on puristic, natural viticulture contains herbs, and plants between the rows of vines which can and should grow there. The Pannonian climate with hot days and cool nights and the unique soils give his wines everything they need

In the so-called “Seewinkel”, where the evaporation at the lake, the evening fogs and the warm Pannonian climate constantly cause humid-warm weather changes, Botrytis cinerea, the basis for fantastic sweet wines from Kracher, such as Beerenauslesen and Trockenbeerenauslesen develop each year. From the grape varieties Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Scheurebe, Muskat-Ottonel and now and then Zweigelt, Alois Kracher creates 10 to 15 different Trockenbeerenauslesen in two different vinification styles every year.
